The process of creative collaboration, like the process of art making, is still a mystery to many.

The ongoing creation of OUROBOROS, a public sculpture for SouthEast Asian Games 2015, involves an art community of over 5000 contributors. To give some behind-the-scenes-insight into this collaborative, community based art-making process, Nicola was invited to work with over 2000 visitors at The Arts House during the SAVANTS exhibition by Little Artists Art Studio:

It was an honour to be invited and great fun to work with the talented students at Little Artists Art Studio. In this second part of the SAVANTS Series, original works borne from their burgeoning contemporary artists were displayed. Inspired by everything from nature to society, fantasy to reality, and contemporary to classical styles, their students from 4 to 74 years old shared the labyrinthine creativity within their own minds.

The ExtraOrdinary Idea was a live installation which we built, created and finished in one day, as a collaborative effort. Thanks to Little Artists Art Studio and all who joined in with this extraordinary thing!

  1. Each young visitor was given a circular tag (some adults too…)
  2. They wrote/drew their wishes, dreams or aspirations
  3. They installed their circle to join hundreds of wishes suspended on the helical structure, forming a big whirl of messages and drawings
  4. The wishes grew and eventually branched out, unexpectedly, to become a tree-like form: a great lesson that unexpected twists and turns make art, and life, better.

About SAVANTS:

SAVANTS is a 4-part Pop-Up Exhibition Series featuring nearly four hundred of the finest talents from Little Artists Art Studio. In this second part of the SAVANTS Series only original works born from these burgeoning contemporary artists are displayed. Inspired by everything from nature to society, fantasy to reality, and contemporary styles to classical styles, this is a unique opportunity for students from 4 to 74 years old to share with the public the labyrinthine creativity within their own minds. Choosing a grand platform – The Arts House at Old Parliament – Little Artists Art Studio is juxtaposing established colonial grandeur against the emerging artists representing modern Singapore’s multinational arts community. SAVANTS is a transformative experience, where young and mature artists work together to move your spirit.
